Abstract
The Honduran Air Force (FAH) is a noble, non-profit governmental institution that provides valuable service to the Honduran population. It relies on a national budget primarily allocated to aviation to fulfill its constitutional mission, which leaves limited resources to meet other needs, such as an efficient outdoor lighting system. The objective of the lighting system implementation project is to modernize the obsolete and deteriorated lighting system of the FAH's Central Complex to reduce energy consumption and operational costs. To achieve this goal, a comparison of different lighting technologies currently available in the market was conducted, along with surveys of FAH personnel and interviews with experts in new lighting technologies and FAH electrical maintenance. It was concluded that LED technology best fits the needs, leading to the recommendation of replacing old luminaires with high-efficiency LED luminaires and incorporating an automated lighting system with photocells to improve visibility and security in key areas.
