In Honduras, the persistent shortage of adequate social housing is evident, especially in densely populated urban areas such as the municipality of Villanueva, in the Valle de Sula. Vulnerability to extreme weather events, such as hurricanes and floods, exacerbates this problem, exposing the population to precarious conditions and housing risks. The objective of the project is to assess the feasibility of implementing vertical social housing as a solution to the housing deficit in Villanueva and surrounding municipalities or those with similar characteristics. Advantages were identified in terms of space optimization, urban densification, and the capacity to mitigate risks from natural disasters. The implementation of regulations, guidelines, and criteria promoting the construction of vertical housing in affected or higher-risk areas is recommended, ensuring accessibility, security, and sustainability. These measures are expected to improve the quality of life and resilience of local communities in the face of extreme weather events. It is crucial to recognize the limitations of the project, such as the lack of detailed data on economic feasibility and social acceptance of these housing options. Further studies are suggested to evaluate their economic and social impact, involving the community in the planning and construction process. The implementation of vertical social housing represents a valuable opportunity to address the housing deficit in Villanueva. However, a collaborative approach involving various governmental, community, and private sector actors is necessary to ensure its long-term success.
