Abstract
This work aimed to assess the feasibility of a business model for the commercialization of hydroponic cultivation kits as a sustainable alternative for food production in urban and peri-urban areas of Honduras. The study focused on determining the technical, economic, and commercial viability of the proposed model, seeking to promote food self-sufficiency, resource optimization, and accessibility to innovative agricultural technologies. A mixed-methods approach was applied, combining structured surveys of potential customers and financial analysis under a prefeasibility framework. The results showed a high level of interest from the population, particularly in the domestic segment, for easy-to-use and accessible hydroponic solutions, with 62.5% willing to acquire a kit and 72% interested in receiving training. Key success factors were identified, such as ease of installation, technical assistance, and after-sales support, as well as barriers such as lack of technical knowledge and initial costs. It was concluded that the business model is viable and sustainable. It is recommended to move forward with the pilot launch and gradual expansion, prioritizing consumer education and continuous product improvement.
