Abstract
Dogs are as prone to heart disease as humans. Around the world, 10% of dogs suffer from some form of heart condition. Pet owners do not always take their pets for medical check-ups, increasing the risk of developing conditions such as congestive heart failure.A wearable heart rate monitor is proposed to provide relevant information on this matter. Arduino-compatible components have been used for its design. The methodology employed is the V-model, a feedback system commonly used in software development.Experts were consulted to identify the needs that had to be addressed, and they also verified the validity of the results. The monitor proved effective in acquiring electrocardiograms, providing an accuracy of 91%, and users are able to view the information through an application on their phones.Doctors who participated in the research stated that they would consider the information acquired with this monitor for their diagnoses. The main challenges were the subjects' fur and wireless communication, for which exploring alternatives to the components used is suggested.
