Abstract
Biomedical maintenance is a critical function in hospitals, as it ensures the proper functioning of medical equipment used for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Administrative processes are essential for the proper functioning of the biomedical department as they ensure efficient resource management, maintain cost control, record keeping and documentation, inventory management and evaluation of the department's performance. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the perception of the technical and ward personnel of two selected hospitals regarding the efficiency of administrative processes related to the biomedical department, analyzing how these processes influence the operational performance of biomedical maintenance. Aspects such as efficiency in spare parts inventory management, purchasing planning and coordination between the maintenance department and the purchasing department were examined. A mixed methodology has been applied, involving both quantitative and qualitative data collection, with a descriptive approach of perceptual scope. This approach aims to understand the perspective of the personnel in relation to the problem under study. Interviews and surveys were conducted with those responsible for the maintenance and purchasing departments, as well as with biomedical maintenance technicians. In addition, records and documents related to spare parts procurement processes were reviewed. The results of this study have helped identify the strengths and weaknesses of the administrative processes for spare parts acquisition in the analyzed hospitals. Based on these results, recommendations and strategies can be proposed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of these processes, thereby optimizing the operational performance of biomedical maintenance.
