Abstract
A system with data traceability and visibility of surgical information is essential for effective and safe hospital management. In diverse public hospitals in Honduras, surgical scheduling, documentation, and follow-ups are still conducted through manual methods or fragmented digital platforms. The lack of system integration limits access to critical data, interferes with coordination among departments, and reduces the ability to respond effectively to unforeseen situations, which affects operational efficiency and clinical decision-making. In order to address this issue, the objective of this study was to develop and validate a digital decision support system aimed at enhancing the traceability and visibility of the surgical process. The proposed system integrates key variables such as operating room availability, daily surgical schedules, procedural workload, and resource distribution, which provides a visualization of the operating room and surgery status. The system was tested by simulating data from Hospital Nacional Mario Catarino Rivas. Operational simulations, surveys, and interviews with medical, technical, and administrative staff were conducted to assess usability, functionality, and perceived value. The results demonstrated a positive acceptance of the developed system and highlighted its functionality in organizing information clearly, reducing waiting times, and improving coordination between departments. The surveyed personnel emphasized the benefits of having features such as the visualization of the availability of operating rooms and the traceability of canceled surgeries, noting that the system facilitates decision-making and enables the tracking of relevant information for the hospital. Compared to the manual methods currently used, the developed system reduces errors and duplicated records, thereby strengthening operational transparency. This tool represents an innovative approach for hospital environments, enabling the digitalization of surgical management processes and ensuring traceability. Its implementation encourages more efficient, transparent, and data-driven hospital operations, with potential scalability to similar healthcare settings across the country.
