Preferred educational platforms for E-learning in a Honduran educational center during the COVID-19 pandemic

dc.descriptionIntroduction. COVID-19 constitutes a global public health crisis, with education being one of the most affected social sectors. This study described the acceptance of virtual education platforms by the educational trinomial (family, student, teacher) of an educational center. Methods. A mixed methods study was implemented, with a probabilistic sample of 98 participants in an educational center in northern Honduras. A quantitative survey was applied to collect demographic data and knowledge on technological literacy knowledge by the students and parents. Qualitative semistructured interviews were applied to 21 teachers, and 98 parents or students in order to evaluate their E-learning perceptions, as well as to a panel of eight experts. The experts evaluated four E-learning platforms: Microsoft Teams for Education, Moodle, ClassroomApp y EduBox through a weighting table from 1 to 5. The study was carried out from April to October in 2020. Results. The use of technologies for virtual classes was 69.0% by preschool and first basic cycle students. The ClassroomApp platform had the highest score (3.74 out of 5.00), while EduBox had the lowest score (3.35). Conclusion. ClassroomApp best adapted to the needs of an educational center in northern Honduras, with the highest score, given by the expert panel, based on quality indicators.en-US
dc.descriptionIntroducción. El COVID-19 constituye una crisis para la salud pública mundial, siendo educación uno de los sectores sociales más afectados. Este estudio describió la aceptación de plataformas de educación virtual por el trinomio educativo (familia, estudiante, docente) de un centro educativo. Métodos. Se empleó un método mixto, con una muestra probabilística de 98 participantes en un centro educativo en el norte de Honduras. Se aplicó una encuesta cuantitativa virtual, con el fin de recopilar datos demográficos y conocimiento de alfabetización tecnológica por los alumnos y padres de familia. Se aplicó entrevistas cualitativas semiestructuradas a 21 docentes y a 98 padres de familia y estudiantes para conocer las percepciones de E-learning, así como a un panel de ocho expertos. Los expertos evaluaron cuatro plataformas de E-learning: Microsoft Teams for Education, Moodle, ClassroomApp y EduBox mediante una tabla de ponderación de 1 a 5. El estudio se llevó a cabo de abril a octubre de 2020. Resultados. El uso de las tecnologías digitales para clases fue de 69.0% por estudiantes de prebásica y primer ciclo de básica. La plataforma ClassroomApp fue la mejor calificada, con un puntaje de 3.74 de 5.00, mientras que EduBox tuvo el puntaje más bajo (3.35). Conclusión. ClassroomApp se adaptó mejor a las necesidades del centro educativo evaluado, con la calificación más alta, dada por el panel de expertos, en base a indicadores de calidad.es-ES
