El salario mínimo en Honduras ¿mini o maxi salario mínimo?

dc.descriptionThis study analyzes the dimension of minimum wage in Honduras for the 2002-2015 period by using the methodology proposed by Saget (2008), who relates the minimum wage with three different variables to build three indicators: GDP per capita, GDP per worker and average salary. We found that for the period 2002 to 2008 Honduras had a mini minimum wage, since the ratio between the minimum wage and GDP per capita (wmin/PIBpc) is less than 0.30. As of 2009, as result of the substantial increase in the minimum wage, an increase in the three indicators was observed. In particular, the indicator wmin/PIBpc was located in an intermediate zone, below the minimum maxi wage and above the mini minimum wage. We calculated the gap between the average wage for the whole country and the minimum wage. The main challenge faced was to have accurate statistics on the employed population. This study represents an application of the methodology of Saget (2008) in Honduras to measure the dimension of minimum wage.en-US
dc.descriptionEl presente estudio analiza la dimensión del salario mínimo en Honduras para el período 2002-2015 mediante la metodología propuesta por Saget (2008), quien relaciona el salario mínimo con tres variables diferentes: PIB per cápita, PIB por trabajador y salario medio, para así construir tres indicadores. Se encontró que para el período 2002 al 2008, Honduras tenía un minisalario mínimo, ya que la relación entre el salario mínimo y el PIB per cápita (wmin/PIBpc) es menor que 0.30. A partir del 2009, como resultado del incremento sustancial del salario mínimo, se observa un aumento de los tres indicadores. En particular el indicador wmin/PIBpc se ubica en una zona intermedia, debajo del maxisalario mínimo y arriba del minisalario mínimo. Se encontró además la brecha existente entre el salario medio calculado para todo el país y el salario mínimo. El reto principal que se enfrentó fue contar con estadísticas precisas sobre la población empleada. Este estudio representa una aplicación de la metodología de Saget (2008) a la realidad hondureña para medir la dimensión del salario mínimo.es-ES
