dc.descriptionIntroduction. Diabetes mellitus is an endogenous metabolic disease, with potentially disabling consequences, especially in the case of the so-called diabetic foot. This study aim was to identify social representations present in the perception and interpretation of elderly adults that were carriers of the injury known as diabetic foot. Methods. The elderly adults in this study are part of the Rapha project that consists of a portable medical device based on Led light, which is applied together with latex sheets on the affected foot of the elderly adult developed in Brasilia, Brazil. This study consisted of qualitative-quantitative methods. Data collection was carried out through interviews and the application of a questionnaire to identify the socioeconomic profile of the informants. Results. Most of the participants stated that the Rapha device was decisive in treating and reducing the wound. Additionally, the main social representations identified were: fear, sadness, discomfort, and pain. The results pointed to the importance of incorporating a psychological component to the treatment offered. Conclusion. The study suggests that it is crucial to value the psychological and socioeconomic aspects of the care protocols of elderly adults with diabetic foot lesions for the sake of clinical treatment.en-US
dc.descriptionIntroducción. La diabetes mellitus es una enfermedad endógena de tipo metabólico, con consecuencias potencialmente invalidantes, especialmente en el caso del llamado pie diabético. El objetivo de este estudio fue identificar las representaciones sociales presentes en la percepción e interpretación de adultos mayores con pie diabético acerca de su dolencia. Métodos. Los adultos mayores de este estudio son parte del proyecto Rapha que consiste en un dispositivo médico portátil a base de luz de Led, la cual se aplica junto con láminas de látex sobre el pie afectado del adulto mayor desarrollado en Brasilia, Brasil. Este estudio consistió de métodos cualitativos-cuantitativos. La recolección de los datos fue realizada por medio de entrevistas y la aplicación de un cuestionario para identificar el perfil socioeconómico de los informantes. Resultados. La mayoría de los participantes manifestó que el dispositivo Rapha fue determinante en el tratamiento y en la reducción de la herida. Asimismo, las principales representaciones sociales identificadas fueron: miedo, tristeza, incomodidad y dolor. Los resultados señalaron la importancia de integrar un componente psicológico al tratamiento ofrecido. Conclusión. La investigación sugiere que a la par del tratamiento clínico, es importante valorizar los aspectos psicológicos y socioeconómicos en los protocolos de atención de adultos mayores con pie diabético.es-ES
