dc.descriptionEpilepsy is a worldwide health problem and it is highly prevalent in developing countries. In Mexico it is estimated that there are one to two million people with this condition. The Priority Program of Epilepsy in Mexico has several Centers for Comprehensive Care in Epilepsy (CAIE). CAIE 1 of the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery "MVS" (NINN) will perform a collaborative project with Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana en Honduras (UNITEC) to implement and to evaluate the functionality of telemedicine to provide medical care to patients with epilepsy and to connect with doctors who refere patients to the epilepsy clinic of CAIE 1 at INNN. Telemedicine can be a useful tool to decentralize medical care provision and to benefit both patients and doctors who refer patients to the epilepsy clinic at INNN, it will also favor medical education in epilepsy, optimize the time and quality of care for patients with epilepsy and could also decreases the direct and indirect costs of epilepsy care.en-US
dc.descriptionLa epilepsia constituye un problema de salud a nivel mundial y en países en desarrollo. En México se estima que hay uno a dos millones de personas con esta condición. El Programa Prioritario de Epilepsia en México cuenta con varios Centros de Atención Integral en Epilepsia (CAIE). El CAIE 1 del Instituto Nacional de Neurología y Neurocirugía “MVS” (INNN) realizará un proyecto colaborativo con la Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana en Honduras (UNITEC) para implementar y evaluar la funcionalidad de la telemedicina para la atención de los pacientes con epilepsia y para conexión con los médicos que refieren a los pacientes a la clínica de epilepsia del CAIE 1 del INNN. La telemedicina puede ser una herramienta útil para descentralizar la atención y beneficiar a pacientes y a los médicos que los refieren, además de favorecer la educación médica continua en epilepsia, optimizar tiempos y calidad de atención y disminuir costos directos e indirectos de las atenciones por epilepsia.es-ES
